When death makes ash of time

At dawn, the spark of day, when rivers burn so brilliantly
I rise from where I lay, to make use of this short time.

The road like ribbon frays, the wind echoes from the sea
For many years I've been away, deaf to the bells of time.

Alone and in disarray, I learned of mysteries
It was there I learned to pray, and remove myself from time.

By the sea I met my love one day: like the sun on a cloudy day
The phoenix may die for love, she’d say, but it will rise, in time.

My time has come to go away; to meet the horses in the sea
From her blaze the phoenix calls me to obey, when death makes ash of time.
